On March 7, former professional basketball player Dwayne Wade attended the Truth Awards with his wife Gabrielle Union and their 12-year-old daughter Zaya Wade. Zaya made her first debut on the red carpet since she came out as transgender. Wade, a shooting guard who spent most of his career playing for the Miami Heat, posted a photo on his Instagram page commemorating Zaya’s debut.

In the photo, the family is seen smiling together, while Dwayne and Gabrielle look at Zaya. “Zaya how does that custom @richfresh feel??? Last night was a dope experience for our family,” wrote Dwayne in the caption The family also practiced some color coordination at the awards, which “was created to recognize and highlight the accomplishments of the Black LGBTQ+ community and its allies,” according to Dwayne’s post.

Gabrielle wore a suit coat that was three-quarters white and one-quarter black with jade accents. Dwayne suit was the reverse of his wife’s – three-quarters black and one-quarter white – and had fuchsia accents. Zaya wore a jade suit jacket and buttoned undershirt with a fuchsia sash hanging diagonally on a pair of black trousers.The family’s outfits were tailor-made by Richfresh, a Los Angeles-based fashion designer. According to a post on his Instagram page, the jade and fuchsia accents were Zaya’s idea.

Richfresh felt that he was “truly honored” to design the Wade family’s outfits. “Glad to be a part of such a big moment for D, Gabby, and Zaya. And yo, Zaya is a force to be reckoned with. She’s the s–t, and at present, this is her fave outfit, cuz she got taste,” the fashion designer wrote in the caption.

Zaya recently began transitioning from using male to female pronouns to describe herself. “Everyone allow her to re-introduce herself her name is Zaya Wade,” wrote Dwayne in the second Instagram post. He also said that he and Gabrielle “couldn’t have been prouder,” of their daughter.
