Last week on Saturday Night Live, Dwayne Johnson and Tom Hanks announced that they will run for the presidency in 2020.
Johnson appeared during the season’s final episode, announcing that he will be running for president. Then, he invited Hanks on stage and announced he will be his vice president.
“A lot of people have been telling me lately that I should run for President of the United States,” Johnson said. “And I gotta tell you, it’s very flattering but tonight, I wanna put this for rest and just say once and for all—I’m in.”
“Starting tonight, I’m running for president of the United States,” Johnson told the audience, before he introduced Hanks.
“Dwayne, Dwayne, Dwayne, I could not possibly… turn this down!” Hanks joked. However, he quickly accepted the role and declared:
“The truth is, America needs us. No one can seem to agree on anything anymore except two things.”
“Pizza and us!”, said Johnson.
Johnson made sure to clarify the candidacy was all a joke, before saying:
“When it comes to politics, we need more poise and less noise. Americans deserve strong capable leaders. Leaders who care about this country and care about it’s people.”
In addition, the episode ended with bidding farewell to SNL cast members Bobby Moynihan and Vanessa Bayer.
