Dwayne Johnson ‘Heartbroken’ Over Devastating Wildfires In Maui

Dwayne Johnson shared a video on his Instagram account Sunday where he spoke about how devastated he is by the wildfires in Hawaii. 

The current wildfires that are ravaging Maui have already killed 90 people and are destroying the island. 

“I’m completely heartbroken over this, and I know that all of you are too,” he stated in the clip. “Everything that I’ve seen transpire over these past couple of days, everything that continues to transpire, hour-by-hour, minute-by-minute, it’s all heartbreaking.”

He continued to thank everyone who has been supporting Hawaii in their time of need.

“Thank you guys around the world for all of your love and your support and your light, your prayers,” he said. “Thank you for sending them to the islands of Hawaii, the people of Hawaii.” 

Johnson asked his followers to help support the cause by donating to the website that is in his bio. “If you want to support or donate in any way you can, check the link in my bio,” he said.

He explained that he is working in collaboration with various organizations to help stop these fires. 

“I have been speaking with organizations on the ground, we have boots on the ground, and I will continue to get as much information as possible,” he said. “There’s so many needs.” 

Johnson has a special connection to Hawaii, as he lived there for several years as a young child. He added several photos to the post of the island burning and the destruction these fires have caused. Many of these pictures include first responders attempting to stop the damage from spreading.

Additionally, he shared the following sentiment while tagging the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation. 

“Heartbroken but our faith and mana is strong. First responders, health care teams, hotels, locals businesses, boots on the ground organizations and all our local heroes, stay strong – we love you and appreciate you,” the actor wrote. “All our local families, our ohana, our aiga, stay strong thru this devastating time. Resilience resolve is our DNA. Our ancestors are in our blood. This is who we are. This is what we do. I love you. Stay strong. More to come.” 

The wildfires first started on August 8 and have since been spreading across the island to the towns of Kula and Lahaina in Maui. Since August 9, around 40,000 people have been forced to evacuate and leave behind their homes and possessions. Ninety-nine people have been confirmed dead and the death toll is expected to rise, making this one of the deadliest fires the U.S. has experienced in over a century.
