Dwayne Johnson Campaign Committee Files With FEC For Potential 2020 Presidential Bid

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson may be on his way to running for president in 2020.

A campaign committee was successfully filed by Kenton Tilford, a West Virginia-based writer. He filed the paperwork on Sunday to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) with the campaign name “Run the Rock 2020.”

Johnson has spoken about running for president for a while now, sometimes jokingly, sometimes serious. He semi-announced the run during the season finale of Saturday Night Live, which he hosted. “In the past, I never would have considered running for president,” he said. “I mean, I didn’t think I was qualified at all. But now I’m actually worried that I’m too qualified.”

At first, the speech seemed like a joke, and he even announced his running mate to be Tom Hanks. “The truth is, America needs us,” Hanks, who was present as well, added. “No one can seem to agree on anything anymore except for two things: pizza and us.” Hanks reasoned that they would probably get 100% of the vote because he’s “fought in World War II in like 10 different movies,” “and I, of course, would get the minority vote, because everyone just assumes that I’m, well, whatever they are,” Johnson added.

Later in an interview, Johnson told GQ that he’s not ruling out living in the White House. “I think that it’s a real possibility,” he said. Tilford, who filed on Johnson’s behalf, has tweeted about the actor running for president in the past, but has been oddly silent about the idea recently. Neither he nor Johnson have commented on the move.
