Dustin Diamond, best known for playing Screech on Saved by the Bell, was charged with a felony after allegedly stabbing a man in a bar brawl.
On Christmas, Diamond and his fiancée Amanda Schutz were at Port Washington, Wisc., bar Grand Ave Saloon when a fight broke out. According to police, during the brawl, a man “had stabbed another male patron and left the bar,” reported ABC News. Diamond was later found in possession of a switchblade.
Diamond and Schutz were pulled over driving away from the scene of the altercation in the early hours of the morning of Dec. 26. Diamond, 37, was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree recklessly endangering safety, carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct. Schutz was also arrested for disorderly conduct.
According to Diamond’s account of the night, Schutz initially got into a heated altercation with a fellow female patron of the establishment. Upon noticing that Schutz was bleeding, Diamond attempted to intervene. A chaotic fight ensued involving the two women, Diamond, and a pair of other men. Diamond has insisted that he didn’t intentionally wound anyone and has waffled about whether he wielded the switchblade or a pen.
The man who was stabbed suffered a non-life-threatening puncture wound to the armpit and is recovering from the injury at home.
Diamond, who is being held on $10,000, is due to appear in court for a hearing on Monday, Dec. 29. If found guilty on the second-degree recklessly endangering safety charge, he could face up to 10 years in jail.
