‘Dune’ Reboot To Premiere At Venice Film Festival

The upcoming epic science fiction film Dune will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The film is directed by Dennis Villeneuve and is based on the book of the same name by Frank Herbert. Legendary Pictures is the production company for Dune while Warner Bros. Pictures will serve as its distributor. Villeneuve, along with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts wrote the film. In addition to writing the screenplay and directing, Villeneuve served as a producer for the movie alongside Cale Boyter, Mary Parent and Joe Caracciolo Jr.

The 2021 version of Dune is the second attempt at a film adaptation of the iconic novel following the 1984 film of the same name directed by David Lynch, which received negative reviews from critics for its story, editing, pacing, direction and overall lack of faithfulness to the source material. Villeneuve has promised that his version of Dune will be truer to Herbert’s original novel. The film stars Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, the son of a Duke (Oscar Isaac) who is taken by his father to a desert planet known as Arrakis to help speed up the process of a mining operation for a valuable substance called “the spice.” When Paul’s father is betrayed by the greedy and manipulative Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård) and, Paul goes on an adventure through the desert planet of Arrakis to find a way to take down the corrupt Baron, while avoiding many dangers including the ruthless followers of the Baron and the iconic giant sandworms.

Dune was originally supposed to be released earlier in 2021. However, the movie was pushed back to a later date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film is now set to be released simultaneously on the streaming service HBO Max and in theaters on October 1. Dune will officially have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 3.
