Warner Bros. has announced that Dune: Part Two will be delayed to March 15, 2024. The delay comes as the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes continue.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which had a March 14 release date, will be pushed back to April 12.
Due to SAG-AFTRA rules, Warners Bros cannot use the film’s cast for the press circuit. Dune: Part Two’s star-studded cast includes Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh and Javier Bardem.
Warner Bros is also looking into delays for some of their 2023 releases to 2024. Movies slated for a December 2023 release include The Color Purple and Aquaman: The Last Kingdom might be delayed for a 2024 release.
Warner is not the only strike-affected studio delaying several of its movies. Last month, Sony delayed several films due to the strikes – Kraven the Hunter, a sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spiderverse – have all been postponed.
Based on the book of the same name by Frank Herbert. Dune: Part Two is the sequel to the acclaimed Dune. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the movie received ten Oscar nominations at the 2022 Oscars ceremony, including best picture. It won six awards, the most out of any film nominated. Because of the delay, Dune: Part Two will not be eligible for the 2024 ceremony.
