Actor Tom Wopat has officially pleaded guilty to groping women on the set of 42nd Street, a musical he was starring in. When he was arrested in August 2017, police also found cocaine on his person.
According to prosecutors, the 66-year-old was sentenced to a year of probation on Friday. He was charged with two counts of annoying and accosting a person of the opposite sex.
Wopat admitted to inappropriately touching two female cast members during a rehearsal for 42nd Street at Waltham’s Reagle Music Theatre, in Massachusetts.
As part of his plea deal, Wopat was cleared of the indecent assault and battery charges, which are felonies. His cocaine possession charge will be dropped as long as he’s sober for the next year.
According to police reports, Wopat put his finger in between a woman’s buttocks, pulled a woman by her hips to him and peeled a sunburn off another’s skin.
Wopat has had steady work since his time on Dukes of Hazzard, including many guest appearances on TV shows. He’s also landed roles on the stage and in music. He has been performing in 42nd Street for years, on Broadway and around the country. He appeared in his first Broadway drama in 2005, in a revival of Glengarry Glen Ross with co-stars Alan Alda and Liev Schreiber. In addition, he’s recorded multiple jazz albums and toured with Faith Prince in an “Over the Rainbow” tour.
