Jon Bon Jovi’s daughter, Stephanie Rose Bongiovi, will not face drug charges after all. Due to a 2011 amendment to New York state law, people are cleared from possession charges if they have made an attempt to seek help for a person in danger of an overdose.
Bongiovi, 19, and Ian S. Grant, 21, both students at Hamilton College, were arrested for possessing drug paraphernalia, marijuana and heroin after authorities were called to Bongiovi's dorm room in what was an apparent drug overdose on Bongiovi's part. However, after Grant called police when Bongiovi became unresponsive, he inadvertently steered her out of trouble, as well.
“To proceed would be highly inappropriate and highly unethical, and would jeopardize my opportunity to practice in the future,” District Attorney Scott McNamara told Utica, N.Y.'s Observer-Dispatch.
While Bongiovi is in the clear from the law, she still faces serious potential repercussions from Hamilton College, where drug possession is against school policy. "The college is cooperating with the police investigation," the institution told local NBC affiliate, WKTV. "Our first concern is always for the safety of our students. Out of respect for the privacy of our students and in accordance with federal regulations, we do not discuss individual health or disciplinary matters."
