Comedian Drew Carey paid a teary, emotional tribute to his slain ex-fiancée Amie Harwick on his radio show on Sirius XM. On February 21, Carey discussed how hurt he felt about Harwick’s death on his show, Drew Carey’s Friday Night Freak-Out, on the channel Little Steven’s Underground Garage. “I just wanted to let you know that my ex-fiancée, Amie, who I loved very much, was murdered the day after I recorded this, so I didn’t want people to hear this and hear me be happy and fun and think I didn’t know it happened, or something,” prefaced Carey.
“Back in September 2018, I was in a beautiful, great, best relationship of my life with a woman named Amie Harwick,” said Carey. Soon after, the comedian was overcome with grief and began to cry. “She was a sex therapist and mental health advocate. She had a Ph.D. and a master’s degree, and she was beautiful and fun, and cared deeply about people and improving their lives, and was just a joy to be around. I was so in love with her,” he continued. The comedian then revealed he and Harwick were still in love at the time of her death. “Even after we broke up, we still loved each other very much. Even though we broke up the engagement, I was still so in love with her. And she loved me back,” Carey said.
Carey then shared some of Harwick’s favorite songs with the listeners. “We would sing the words in each other’s ears. We would hold each other and dance in the kitchen to it and slow dance in the bathroom to it, and the office, living room or where we were. And I would hold her and we would hold hands in the car and listen to it and sing to each other,” said the comedian. Some of the songs on the setlist included “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” “Dedicated to the One I Love,” and “A Girl Like You,” according to Sirius XM.
“I could never hear these songs again without thinking of her, so this next set is for Amie Harwick, a beautiful person who didn’t deserve to die like she did,” said Carey
