Drew Barrymore Slams Tabloids That Said She Wished Her Mother Jaid Barrymore Was Dead

Drew Barrymore fired back at tabloid magazines that claim she wished her mom, Jaid Barrymore, was dead.

She posted a video on Instagram speaking to the tabloids who talk about her in their magazines.

She captioned the post: “TO ALL YOU TABLOIDS. You know what, to all you tabloids out there, you have been f—— with my life since I was 13 years old. I have never said that I wished my mother was dead. How dare you put those words in my mouth. I have been vulnerable, and tried to figure out a very difficult, painful relationship, while admitting it is difficult to do while a parent is alive, and that for those of us who have to figure that out in real-time, cannot wait — as in they cannot wait for the time. Not that the parent is dead. Don’t twist my words around or ever say that I wish my mother was dead. I have never said that. I never would. In fact, I go on to say that I wish that I never have to live an existence where I would wish that on someone because that is sick.”

Barrymore is known to have an unstable childhood, as she has openly talked about it.

She started acting at a very young age when she was just five years old and became a well-known star when she acted in the movie ET when she was seven years old. This had detrimental effects on her mental health and her parents were not able to help her in the ways she needed them to.

Her mother took her out to parties when she was eight and around the age of 12 she had already been to rehab because of drugs and alcohol. She returned to rehab at the age of 13.

Shortly after her mother put her into an institution that gave her the discipline her life lacked. She did describe the institution as difficult, but she does not regret going.

When she got out of the institution she was legally emancipated from her mom and was declared an adult at the age of 14.

She does recognize that she and her mother have a complicated relationship.

Barrymore released the book Wildflower in 2015, and it goes more in detail about her childhood and how it shaped her today.
