Drake Swats Away DeMar DeRozan Raptors Jersey During Concert As Feud Grows
The animosity between Drake and NBA star DeMar DeRozan has deepened after the singer swatted away a DeRozan Raptors jersey tossed to him while performing in Sydney, Australia.
The Kings, DeRozan’s current team, had fun with the reaction by reposting the video on X for fans. While in his first year with the Kings, DeRozan started his career in Toronto and played nine seasons, racking up four All-Star appearances. DeRozan has become the franchise’s all-time leader in several categories, including points and games, and is a beloved figure in Toronto.
In 2018, DeRozan was traded to San Antonio in a deal that brought Kawhi Leonard north of the border, helping secure the first and only NBA championship. After stints with the Spurs and Chicago Bulls, DeRozan is in his first season with the Sacramento Kings.
A native of Compton, California, DeRozan sided with hometown sensation Kendrick Lamar last summer during Lamar’s beef with Drake. DeRozan danced on stage with Lamar’s song “Not Like Us.” The song was featured on a diss track aimed at Drake that won five Grammy Awards, including best song of the year.
Lamar performed the song during the Super Bowl halftime show, with over 65,000 people singing along. One of the lyrics mentions DeRozan, “I’m glad DeRoz’ came home. Y’all didn’t deserve him, either.”
In November 2024, Drake told CBS Sports that if the Raptors retired DeRozan’s jersey, he would pull it down himself. DeRozan responded by sarcastically wishing the rapper “good luck.”
