Ice Cube revealed that Dr. Dre will be releasing a new album very soon during an interview with   Philadelphia radio station Power 99.

New Dr. Dre Album

Ice Cube let the news slip during an interview about the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton. When asked if there was new music on the N.W.A’s biopic Straight Outta Compton soundtrack, the rapper said that there would be new music, just not on the soundtrack.

“Actually, Dre is dropping an inspired album, inspired by Compton. He’s dropping something on Aug. 1,” he said. “It’s mega. It’s Dr. Dre. It’s what everybody has been waiting for. It’s definitely a dope record, and he’s dropping it all on the same day. It’s crazy.”

It’s hard not to believe Ice Cube, since he’s always been a very close friend and collaborator of Dre. N.W.A’s biopic Straight Outta Compton is hitting the theaters on Aug.14, so this time might be the best one for the producer and rapper to drop something.

Ice Cube also talked about the N.W.A reunion tour rumors, saying, “Yeah, there’s a possibility, for sure…. We’ve definitely been talking about it. It’s just really about promotors coming to the table and we put together something that works for everybody. It’s definitely, definitely possible.”

Straight Outta Compton co-stars were also in the Power 99’s studio during the interview. While they mostly talked about their roles, they also touched on police violence — N.W.A was known as “the world’s most dangerous group.”

Dr. Dre hasn’t released anything since his 2001 album in 1999. Fans have been waiting for his supposed new album Detox for more than ten years now, with Dre making them hold their breath by sporadically releasing a few singles or collaborations, like “Kush (feat. Snoop Dogg and Akon),” “I Need a Doctor (feat. Eminem and Skylar Grey)” or Kendrick Lamar’s “Compton.” If a new album really comes out soon, that might say the release of Detox is closer than we may think.
