James Tufts, 3, a candidate for Mayor in the small town of Dorset, Minn., has received an endorsement from former mayor and older brother, Bobby Tufts, 6.

In Dorset, a town with a population of 25, is too small to have an official city government. Instead, citizens choose to elect a ceremonial mayor in an annual raffle. Candidates and voters must pay one dollar per ticket, and a winner is chosen by random out of a jar.

In August of 2014, Bobby Tufts, then 5, lost re-election after two years in office. It seems the young civil servant has put his political ambitions aside, as it is now his brother, James, who is running for office.

When asked why Bobby was endorsing James for mayor, Bobby said he was just being a good older brother. “Because my mom said I have to, and I’m the older brother. I’ve been it before so I can help him do it,” Bobby said.

If elected, James said he intends to “eat ice cream all day,” but Bobby had some other words of advice, telling him “to not talk poopy to people, to be nice.”

If he wins, Bobby will be the youngest mayor in state history, beating his older brother by just two days!

The election takes place on Sunday, Aug. 2.
