Dorothy Hamill Opts To Leave ‘Dancing With The Stars’
Dorothy Hamill announced she would be voluntarily exiting season 16 of Dancing With the Stars on Tuesday night.
The former figure skating Olympian was plagued with excruciating pain from a cyst on her back, as well as a buckling ankle. “It would be completely unfair for me to stay in this and have any of these people go home,” she said at the end of the evening’s results show. “I wish I could give it my all, but I can’t.”
By electing to depart the celebrity dancing competition, Hamill effectively saved the two teams who received the least amount of votes from having to pack their bags. Who ended up in the bottom two? Boxer Victor Ortiz and Lindsay Arnold, and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Vanderpump and her partner Gleb Savchenko had been the at-risk pairs.
Although Hamill’s necessary departure was deemed regrettable by all, Dancing With the Stars wasn’t entirely dreary last night. Josh Groban performed his single, “Brave,” while the contestants and pros danced charmingly along. There was also an electrifying performance by indie electro-pop group Icona Pop, who performed their upbeat hit “I Love It.”
Next week, Dancing With the Stars returns with a “Prom Night” theme on Monday on ABC at 8/7c.
