Doreen Taylor Talks New Album ‘Magic,’ Rock Roots

Doreen Taylor recently released her latest studio album Magic, which the American singer-songwriter feels is the closest thing she’s ever done in reflecting who she is as an artist. Taylor opened up about creating the personal album and what to expect on her upcoming tour in an exclusive interview with Uinterview.

Taylor studied opera at Temple University and subsequently landed a spot in a national tour for Phantom of the Opera and a one-woman show in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. During the one-woman show, her set list featured a potpourri of genres – pop-rock, top 40 and country.

“My heart was always in southern rock, my heart has always liked Skynyrd and ZZ Top,” Taylor revealed. “That kind of country twang, but rock and roll. I'm able to bring my own thing. Magic is my own my own song writing, and finally, my own thing. When I open my mouth, and you hear my voice, it's that southern rock kind of style.”

For her tour, Taylor doesn’t want her shows to feel like any ordinary southern rock concert. Using her past on the stages of Vegas and Atlantic City, she’s putting something together that will be truly memorable. “We wanted to make it very different. A lot of people with a rock concert listen to music and then they leave. I said no, we really are going to use the influence of Atlantic City, my theatrical background and use all of my strengths and put them together in one Magic show,” she told Uinterview. “And really pull out all the stops, so it actually grabs you.”
