McDonald and the Doobie Brothers performed at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Monday evening and finished off the show with a rendition of the latter’s 1976 hit “Takin’ it to the Streets.” A standing ovation ensued and Doobie Brothers guitarist-vocalist Pat Simmons announced to the crowd that his band — which includes Tom Johnston and John McFee — and McDonald would be going on tour together next year. The 30-city tour, which is set to begin in West Palm Beach, Florida on June 9, will celebrate the Bay Area-based Doobie Brothers’ 50th anniversary.

“We’ll be performing songs from our full catalog, as well as new music,” Johnston said in a statement.

The “Long Train Running” crooners, which have also been nominated for the 2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, haven’t been on tour with McDonald in almost 25 years.

Before McDonald joined the Doobie Brothers, the band grew to fame with hits like “Black Water,” “China Grove” and “Listen to the Music.” After McDonald joined the group in 1975 to replace Johnston, he helped the band gain further popularity with songs such as “You Belong to Me” and “What a Fool Believes.”

After the Doobie Brothers and McDonald parted ways in 1982, the deep-voiced singer enjoyed a successful solo career that included the release of songs like “Sweet Freedom” and “I Keep Forgettin.'”

Doobie Brothers are currently touring. Tickets for the Doobie Brothers and McDonald’s 2020 tour will go on sale Dec. 6.
