Donatella Versace posted to social media marking the 25th anniversary of the death of her brother, Gianni Versace. She shared a collection of photos of Gianni and a black and white photo of them on social media.
“25 years of missing you, Gianni,” she captioned the Instagram post. “Every day, I wish you were still here.”
Gianni was shot outside his luxurious Miami Beach mansion on July 15, 1997, by serial killer Andrew Cunanan while getting the morning newspaper. He was 50 years old.
His partner, Antonio D’Amico, heard gunshots and saw “Gianni laying down on the stairs in blood,” he said in 2017.
After Gianni’s death, Donatella took over the Versace Group, becoming chief designer and vice president.
In 2018, she dedicated Versace’s Spring line to her brother. She told Vogue that it took two decades to create a tribute line for him because it was “too painful to think about it before. Twenty years went by and I was ready.”
