Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Resort To Partially Re-Open This Weekend

President Donald Trump‘s Mar-a-Lago resort is set to partially reopen this weekend, though guests will still need to follow social distancing guidelines, according to a email sent to members obtained by various news sources.

The resort will open its Beach Club restaurant, pool and whirlpool on Saturday, but the hotel, main dining room, tennis court, gym and other amenities will remain closed. These guidelines will be in affect through June 28.

The club had been closed for two months following a stay at home order put in place by Florida Gov. Rick DeSantis (R). The order expired April 30, and since then DeSantis has allowed stores and restaurants to operate at 25% capacity in most of the state, asking that patrons be spaced six feet apart.

At the Mar-a-Lago resort, beach chairs will be spaced six-feet apart, and social distancing will be enforced in the pool and whirlpool. Guests are asked to bring their own towels. Restrooms will be “thoroughly sanitized hourly” and “sanitizing stations” will be placed at the pool deck.

Trump Organization golf properties also opened this month, including the Trump Doral in Florida, the Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey, and the Trump National Golf Club Washington, D.C., in Virginia.

Trump has not visited the Mar-a-Lago resort since March, when the pandemic was first starting to take hold in America.

Last month, 153 workers were temporarily laid off at the resort because of the shutdown. Trump defended the decision on April 21 saying, “But you can’t have, you know, many hundreds of employees standing around doing nothing. There’s no customer. You’re not allowed to have a customer.”

The federal relief bill passed by Congress cannot apply to Trump’s businesses, and cannot apply to any business with close ties to an elected official.

Palm Beach County, where Mar-a-Lago is located, has had 4,093 confirmed COVID-19 cases, and 245 deaths, as of Friday.
