Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump was vandalized on Wednesday when a man bearing standard construction worker attire demolished the concrete star with his pickax and sledgehammer.
The deed occurred at approximately 5:45 a.m. with few people present to witness it. There was no police presence at the time.
Jamie Otis has been arrested in the incident. He said he wanted to help the women who have accused Trump of sexual harassment and intended to auction off Trump’s star to raise money for them. Trump has indicated his intention to sue the women after election day for lying about his character.
In a correspondence with CNN, Otis has referenced his disapproval of Trump:
“I had four or five family members sexually assaulted, and I’m terribly upset that we have a presidential nominee who’s become sort of a poster child of sexual violence.”
According to the police, Otis is currently in their custody with a $20,000 bail. Leron Gubler, who’s in charge of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, confirmed the star will be restored.
This isn’t the first time Trump’s star was targeted following his entry into the election. Last January, it was painted over with a reverse swastika, and it was graced with a mute sign back in June. The most elaborate addition came this summer, when the star was surrounded by a wall, which is a clear allusion to Trump’s campaign promise to build a wall separating the United Stated and Mexico.
Trump was bestowed with the star back in 2007 for his work on his reality show, The Apprentice. Trump was the host of the program, and it was the genesis for one of his most famous lines: “You’re fired.”
