Donald Trump To Attend George H.W. Bush’s Funeral

After the death of former President George H.W. Bush at 94-years old, President Donald Trump only offered praise and positive words. He also said that he would attend the funeral. The announcement comes just months after Trump was banned from former Republican presidential nominee John McCain’s funeral.

Trump took to Twitter on Saturday morning to speak about the president. He wrote, “President George H.W. Bush led a long, successful and beautiful life. Whenever I was with him I saw his absolute joy for life and true pride in his family. His accomplishments were great from beginning to end. He was a truly wonderful man and will be missed by all!”

This may come as a surprise to some. Trump has been openly hostile to the Bush family for some time now. In the 2016 elections, he mocked Jeb Bush and also went after 43rd president George W. Bush. This led to the elder Bush refusing to support Trump and voting for his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton instead.

At a rally in July this year, Trump mocked Bush’s 1989 inaugural address. He specifically picked on the phrase “a thousand points of light,”  which Bush used to describe Americans coming together and improving their lives and communities.

“What the hell was that, by the way, thousand points of light?” he said. “What did that mean? Does anyone know? I know one thing: Make America great again, we understand. Putting America first, we understand. Thousand points of light, I never quite got that one.” Trump would later pick on the phrase again in a September rally.
