Donald Trump was on the phone with newly elected Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar when suddenly called over a female reporter, Caitriona Perry.
On the phone, he told the new PM of his love for the Irish people, and then made the odd claim that he probably knew every Irish person living in the U.S. Then he turned his attention to the press in the room. “We have all of this Irish, beautiful press,” he said looking at the reporters, the majority of whom were women.
“Where are you from? Come here, come here,” he beckoned one of the women over. She told him the county, and Trump passed it onto Varadkar on the phone. “She has a nice smile on her face, so I bet she treats you well.” The room filled with awkward laughter. Perry later tweeted a video of the moment.
“Video of the bizarre moment when President @realDonaldTrump called me over during his call with Taoiseach @campaignforLeo Varadkar,” she captioned it. In a follow up, Perry explained that normally the press would get their footage from outside the White House, but today they were invited inside. “When we went in, he was already on the phone I caught his eye and he called me over,” she said.
After seeing the video, many took to Twitter to apologize to Perry for the president being a “creep.”
