Vanessa Trump, the wife of Donald Trump‘s eldest son Donald Trump Jr., was taken to the hospital today after opening a letter containing white powder.

The letter was addressed to her husband, but she opened it in their Manhattan apartment around 10 a.m. Once she was exposed to the powder, she was taken to the hospital as a precaution, as were two others who present as well. After being examined by a hazmat crew, the substance was deemed “non-hazardous,” but the exact makeup of the powder is still unclear.
Trump Jr. tweeted about the situation, calling it a “scary situation.” “Thankful that Vanessa & my children are safe and unharmed after the incredibly scary situation that occurred this morning. Truly disgusting that certain individuals choose to express their opposing views with such disturbing behavior,” he wrote.
Trump’s sister Ivanka Trump also posted on Twitter about the incident. “Thinking of @MrsVanessaTrump & wishing I was by her side today. No one deserves to be frightened this way. There is no excuse,” she said.
Both the police and the Secret Service are investigating the event. “The Secret Service and our law enforcement partners in New York City are investigating a suspicious package addressed to one of our protectees received today in New York, New York. This is an active investigation and we cannot comment any further,” reported the Secret Service in a statement.
Trump Jr. requested that his Secret Service security detail be removed last November, but it was reinstated the following week. He married Vanessa in 2005 and the couple share five children. It is unclear if any were home at the time that Vanessa opened the letter.
