Donald Trump Jr. Live-Tweets Angry Responses To Biden’s State Of The Union

Donald Trump Jr. wrote several live responses to President Joe Biden‘s State of the Union Address on Twitter, which included criticisms of policy elements of his speech and taunts of Biden’s vocal gaffes. Biden’s State of the Union touched on a wide range of topics including the recent invasion of Ukraine by Russia, shifts in the American response to Covid-19, infrastructure and employment.

Trump Jr. made it clear he would be trying to roast the president online as much as he could when he tweeted right as Biden began, “Let’s get ready to mumble.” When Biden later made a mixup during his Ukraine remarks, accidentally saying “Iranian” people instead of Ukrainian, Trump Jr. was quick to smarmily reply, “Close enough guys.”

He also responded to a quote Biden said about how “Putin is now isolated from the world more than ever,” by saying “yet we still buy approximately $50 million worth of their oil every day.” The U.S. isn’t entirely dependent on Russia for oil, but the Biden administration has been hesitant to place an oil embargo on the country. The option remains “on the table,” according to White House press secretary Jen Psaki.

Trump Jr. also bristled when Biden said, “The answer is not to defund the police. The answer is to fund the police with the resources and training they need to protect communities.” Trump Jr. wrote Biden’s “entire party wanted to defund the police for the last few years and went after them aggressively while wanting to employ social workers/social justice warriors in their stead.”

While “defund the police,” certainly was a rallying cry for some activists and liberal-leaning lawmakers, it was not widely accepted by Democrats. Police departments have not been defunded in any large-scale manner, with only a few local governments in select cities having voted on plans for reassessing police budgets and experimenting with alternatives. As Biden even said at the address, the American Rescue Plan provided $350 billion for states to hire more police, though some will go to “proven strategies like community violence interruption” on a case-by-case basis.

The eldest Trump child carried in his father’s Twitter-rant footsteps through plenty more tweets, concerning himself with when Biden was and wasn’t masking, posting other clips of Biden in less flattering, rambly moments of the address, and other issues Biden cited like gun control and insulin pricing.

He wrapped up the screed by just saying, “Joe Biden’s State of the Union is Denial.”
