Donald Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., brought his new girlfriend, Bettina Anderson, to Mar-a-Lago’s New Year’s Eve party to celebrate his birthday,
Trump Jr. turned 47 on December 31 at a family celebration at Trump’s estate in Palm Beach, Florida.
Trump Jr. made headlines in December when he was spotted holding hands with Anderson, despite being engaged to Kimberly Guilfoyle since New Year’s Eve 2020. The day after Anderson was seen with Trump Jr., Trump announced that Guilfoyle had been nominated as the U.S. ambassador to Greece.
Attendees of Mar-a-Lago’s New Year’s party, among whom were Elon Musk, JD Vance and Melania Trump, sang a round of happy birthday for Trump Jr. that evening.
While Anderson was expected to be a welcome addition to the Trump family given her status in the “Waspy” circles of Palm Beach, she has reportedly been met with increased suspicion due to her thinly veiled networking efforts. In the past Anderson has expressed political statements supporting mask mandates and Black Lives Matter on social media, prompting the hard right to assume she is not conservative enough for the Trump family.
A Florida socialite, Anderson’s father Harry Lloyd Anderson took over Worth Avenue National Bank in 1970 at the age of 26, making him the youngest bank president in the US. A philanthropist who supported a wide variety of charities, such as the American Red Cross, Harry died of Alzheimer’s at 70 years old in 2013.
Following in her father’s philanthropic efforts, Anderson co-founded Project Paradise with her siblings, an environmental charity that funds filmmaking grants for documentaries focused on environmental conservation. Most recently the organization released a documentary about the fragility of Florida’s freshwater springs, The Water State. Anderson also volunteers for the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County and is a young patron of the Everglades Foundation. In 2022, she told the fashion blog The Daily Front Row, “One of the greatest focuses of my life is how I can be of service to others and be a steward of the environment.”
