Donald Trump made it known on the debate stage Wednesday night that he sometimes carries a gun in New York City.
Donald Trump Carries A Gun
At the third GOP debate ahead of the 2016 presidential election, one of the CNBC moderators asked Trump whether he’d feel more comfortable if his own employees were carrying guns. “Yes, I might feel more comfortable,” said Trump. “I would say that I would.”
Trump then pivoted to take the opportunity to let the American people know that he personally packs heat – on occasion.
“I have a permit, which is very unusual in New York – a permit to carry. I do carry, on occasion. Sometimes a lot,” said the real estate mogul. “But I like to be unpredictable so that people don’t know exactly what I’m carrying, by the way.”
“Unlike our country,” Trump added, “Where we’re totally predictable, and the enemy – whether its ISIS or anybody else – they know exactly what we’re doing because we have the wrong leadership.”
Trump waited until the roaring applause for his “wrong leadership” dig subsided to return to the question posed to him about gun-free zones.
“[Gun-free zones] are target practice for the sickos and for the mentally ill. They look around for gun-free zones,” said Trump. “I think gun-free zones are a catastrophe. They’re a feeding ground for sick people.”
It was then pointed out that some of Trump’s building are gun-free zones. When asked about whether or not he would consider permitting guns on the premises in all of his buildings, the presidential candidate shrugged before leaning into his pro-gun rhetoric, and saying, “I would.”
