Donald Trump made an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Tuesday night and the two played a game of Trump or Colbert? where Trump had to guess who said what in a series of quotes read aloud by Stephen Colbert.
Trump seemed to enjoy himself on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last night. The two joked around, and in between, spoke lightheartedly about some of the more serious issues regarding Trump’s campaign.
“I want to thank you for running for president,” Colbert told Trump as they settled into their seats. “I’m not going to say this stuff writes itself, but you certainly do deliver it on time every day.”
Colbert jokingly asked if Trump was alright with a serious pay-cut if he were to become the president. “If you actually got the gig, would that be a step down for you? ‘Cause you know what the pay is like, right? And having to ride on Air Force One, can you imagine?”
“It would be my great honor,” Trump replied. “I would like to do it, not because I want it, but because I think I can do a great job.”
After some serious talk about his Trump’s presidential campaign, and his views on immigration, Trump and Colbert played a few rounds of Trump or Colbert?
“For years I’ve played an over-the-top, like, conservative, you know, character,” Colbert explained. “Not as long as you did, but for many years.” The audience laughed, and even Trump couldn’t help being amused.
Colbert went on to say that he had been searching through some of Trump’s old quotes, and because of their similarity to some things he himself had said in the past on The Colbert Report, he devised a game of Trump or Colbert? to play with the GOP candidate, and clear things up. “I was looking back at some of the things you’ve said over the years and sometimes I couldn’t figure out whether I said them or you said them. And so, I would like to know if you could help me figure this out.”
The first quote read: “We got Obama in there now and the Chinese testing him bing bing bing bing. You got a woman in there bing bom boom the whole world goes after her.” Can you tell who said it? Trump knew right away, it was Colbert.
The second quote read: “I apologize for being perfect,” to which Trump replied, “that would be you, because I would never say a thing like that.”
On the other hand, it was Trump who said, “I think apologizing’s a great thing, but you have to be wrong… I will absolutely apologize, sometime in the hopefully distant future, if I’m ever wrong.”
For the last question, Colbert threw Trump a curveball. “The real strong have no need to prove it to the phonies,” Colbert read. Trump, knowing it wasn’t he who said it, was a little confused. “It could be you,” he said. Turns out, it was Charles Manson. “Ooo, that’s tough,” Trump replied.
