Dolly Parton posted a video wishing her fans a Happy Easter on Sunday along with some advice for churchgoers during the pandemic. Everyone can worship God without leaving the house, she said.
“I know everybody loves to get all dressed up in their beautiful dresses, their hats, their fancy shoes, go to church, be with all your friends,” the country music star said in the video message on Twitter. “Well, this year we’re going to kind of stay around the house a little bit, right? But that doesn’t mean we can’t worship in the same way that we should.”
She also sang one of her most popular songs, “He’s Alive,” while playing the guitar.
Her tweets come after most states in the U.S. have enacted stay-at-home orders. Some states have made exceptions for religious services. Vice President Mike Pence and other government officials have urged people not to attend services larger than 10 people. People have found creative ways to celebrate without leaving their homes like watching live streams of services and attending services at drive-in movie theaters.
Parton has previously tried to spread the message to stay at home to her fans. She announced she is making a $1 million donation to Vanderbilt University for coronavirus research and has been reading bedtime stories to children in a virtual series called “Goodnight with Dolly.”
She also recently participated in the #IStayHomeFor challenge on social media, created by Kevin Bacon to get people to help stop the spread of coronavirus by social distancing.
Many celebrities shared who they were staying home for.
“I stay home for YOU, all of the beautiful fans,” Parton wrote in a tweet on Saturday. “Love you all.”
