Dolly Parton Honored With Musical Medley At 2019 Grammys

Last Friday, country legend Dolly Parton was honored as the 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year, an annual award presented by the Recording Academy in the week prior to the Grammy’s. Parton was the first country artist to receive the honor.

Parton’s achievement was celebrated last night at the 61st annual Grammy Awards when she took the stage to perform a medley of her greatest hits with an array of celebrities joining her on stage.

Katy Perry and Grammy-winner Kacey Musgraves began the tribute with a flirty rendition of Parton’s 1977 hit “Here You Come Again.” Parton joined them on stage in the middle of the song, and then took over with Miley Cyrus for a version of her chart-topping hit “Jolene.” Mark Ronson and Toni Braxton could be seen mouthing the words along with the goddaughter-godmother duo in the audience. The pair were then joined by Maren Morris for a cover of Neil Young‘s “After the Gold Rush” – which ended in a cute moment where Cyrus laughed after her godmother praised her vocal performance.

The band Little Big Town joined Parton on stage to perform “Red Shoes,” Parton’s new song from the Netflix film, Dumplin’, and then Parton shouted out to the audience “anyone out there work a 9 to 5 job?” before launching into her 1980 anthem “9 to 5.” She was joined onstage once again by Perry, Musgraves, Cyrus, Morris, and Little Big Town for the end of the song.

The Grammy medley comes after a longer tribute concert that was held in Parton’s honor at the MusiCares Person of the Year Gala, which was held Friday at the Los Angeles Convention Center. That concert saw performances from pop superstars Pink, Shawn Mendes and Ronson, as well as Don Henley and Vince Gill from The Eagles and Cyrus, Perry and Musgraves once again honoring the country legend.

Parton is an eight-time Grammy winner herself and remains the most successful female country artist of all time with 44 of her albums making the Billboard Top-10 Country Album list. She thanked the artists who joined her onstage Sunday with a Twitter post.

You can watch the full Parton medley from the 2019 Grammy Awards on the Recording Academy’s website.
