A year after Dolly Parton’s life and career were given the comic book treatment for an installment of the excellent Female Force comic series, Tidal Wave Comics have just announced that a sequel is on the way which will focus on the star’s longtime commitment to philanthropy.
Parton has been active in philanthropy since the mid-1980s, both through significant donations of her personal wealth and through her own foundation, the Dollywood Foundation, which is primarily focused on increasing literacy and reducing the effects of poverty in local initiatives in her home state of Tennessee.
The singer has not gotten less charitable with time. Recently, a $1 million donation by Parton to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center was critical for the development of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine in its early stages.
The book Female Force: Dolly Parton 2, which was written by Michael Frizell with art by Ramon Salas, will explore her creation of the Dollywood Foundation, other charitable initiatives and her own experiences with poverty at a young age. Salas’ art jumps off the page and will surely leave fans of both comic books and Parton breathless.
Female Force is a biography series about prominent women in the world. It is 200 issues strong and features the stories of women including Tina Turner, Selena, Cher, Kamala Harris and Betty White.
