Doja Cat Responds To Negative Reviews Of Her 2025 Oscars Performance Of “Diamonds Are Forever”
Doja Cat has responded to the backlash she received for her James Bond tribute performance at the 2025 Oscars. Held on March 2, the 2025 Oscars saw a variety of impressive performances, including Doja Cat (born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini), who was featured in a dramatic collection of songs in honor of James Bond.
In a rendition of the song “Diamonds Are Forever,” the namesake for the 1971 film, the singer delivered her unique interpretation, which was met with split reactions from the public. While many praised the rapper’s dramatic tone shift, others quickly remarked that some of her notes occasionally “sounded flat.”
On Monday, alongside photos of her in a stunning golden dress, Doja Cat shared on Instagram, “I danced with Sarah Paulson last night. Also, Flow is my favorite movie of all time because it’s a story about friendship. Thanks to the Academy Awards and Vanity Fair for having me. I never get to sing like that, and what I did was brave and scary as f— for me.”
She wrote, “I know a lot of people didn’t like it, but a lot of people did, and I feel good that I pushed myself. The song is a classic and I put a lot of work into it but the nerves got to me and a bitch hit some flats. I can’t wait to do something like that again.”
The singer concluded, “What a blessing that was. I feel amazing about the whole thing. Bye.”
This tribute to Bond comes weeks after veteran producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson signed the Bond franchise over to Amazon.
The tribute was introduced by actress Halle Berry, who reminisced, “I had the great pleasure of working with Barbara and Michael on Die Another Day. And let me tell you, they don’t just produce Bond movies, they were the heart and soul of the franchise for decades.”
She elaborated, “Every generation does have their Bond, you know? The world revolves — it evolves, and so does he. But that signature mix of danger, style, and intrigue…well, that’s timeless.”
