BBC America announced that it will be celebrating the premiere of the newest season of Doctor Who, the first starring Peter Capaldi, with live cinema screenings and plenty of TV specials.

Doctor Who Premiere To Hit Theaters

Capaldi made his first appearance as the Doctor in 2013’s Christmas special episode, but he will truly take over the Tardis in the new season premiere airing Saturday, August 23. The first episode, “Deep Breath,” is a feature-length episode that will premiere on both the big and small screen. “Deep Breath” will be screened in 550 theaters across the country beginning August 25 as part of Fathom Events. Midnight screenings on the actual premiere date, August 23, will be hosted in 12 cities. The theatrical release of the episode, which will be screened in 1,500 theaters worldwide, will also feature 15 minutes of exclusive bonus footage.

On TV, BBC America will be airing a special live pre-show and an after-show on the night of the premiere. Nerdist’s Chris Hardwick will host both shows, which will feature “an array of guests.” Dorctor Who writer and actor Mark Gatiss is confirmed to appear, and will be bringing some behind-the-scenes footage along with him.

In the week leading up to Doctor Who’s big premiere, BBC America will air a few Doctor Who specials. Doctor Who: The Ultimate Companion and The Real History of Science Fiction will air Saturday, August 16, and Doctor Who: The Ultimate Time Lord will air Monday, August 18.
