Dallas resident D’Jon Antone was indicted on a capital murder charge by a grand jury after allegedly shooting actor Eddie Hassell, according to Anna Tinsley Williams, the Communications Officer for Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.
Police arrested 18-year old Antone in November in connection with the shooting and subsequent death of Hassell.
On the night in question, Hassell left the apartment of a woman he was staying with in Grand Prairie, Texas and went to her car, according to surveillance video and witness interviews.
Police responded to a shooting incident at 1:50 a.m. that night and found Hassell suffering from gunshot wounds. Hassell was brought to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
Kretz said detectives confirmed a car was taken from the scene and later recovered. Detectives familiar with the case now say that Antone shot Hassell and stole the car. The motive is still under investigation.
Hassell was known for his roles in the NBC show Surface and the 2010 film The Kids Are All Right.
