Kap died of an apparent heart attack, Billboard reported. His death was confirmed by his road manager Ab Traxx. Traxx revealed that though Big Kap had diabetes, it is unlikely that it had anything to do with his death. Big Kap was not known to have had any prior existing heart conditions.
“Last night when I talked to him, he was fine,” Traxx told Billboard magazine. “He was on the computer at 1 a.m. and then I got the phone call at 4 in the morning from the artist he stays with, Bank Boy Drop. He’s an artist based out of Florida we was actually workin’ on.”
Traxx had also taken to Instagram to mourn the loss of his friend and business partner. “I am really at a lost of words I just spoke to him at 1am recapping our week And plans,” Traxx wrote. “If i known this was the last time I was going to speak to him I would have told him so so much more…. You never know what life has in store for you you have to charish [sic] time friends and family you never know……Gone but not forgotten.”
According to Traxx, Kap had moved to Atlanta a number of months ago with a few projects in the works.
Kap was best known for his work in the rap industry in the 90s, when he worked with Funkmaster Flex on his album The Tunnel (1999).
