Disney Honors The Late Chadwick Boseman On His 44th Birthday

Disney honored the Wakanda king Chadwick Boseman on what would have been his 44th birthday on November 29 with new opening credits to his film Black Panther.

Marvel and Disney have created new opening credits to the film, streaming on Disney+, where Boseman stars as T’Challa/Black Panther, honoring his life and legacy with pictures and videos of the late actor on and off screen. Disney’s Chairmen Bob Iger tweeted, “To all fans of #BlackPanther: watch the film on #DisneyPlus late tonight, for a special tribute to someone that was and will always be near and dear to our hearts.”

Boseman passed away in August at the age of 43 after a private battle with colon cancer. The actor diagnosed in 2016, continued to work while undergoing multiple surgeries and chemotherapy. He died at home surrounded by his wife and family, according to a statement posted on Twitter.

Production on Black Panther 2 is set to begin filming in 2021 but there has been no word yet on what the studio plans to do with the lead character after losing their lead actor. There is speculation that Letitia Wright’s Shuri may become the next Black Panther as it would align with the comic. Marvel has yet to confirm or deny any information regarding the sequel other than the confirmation that it has the green light.

Boseman’s last project, August Wilson’s adaptation of Ma Rainy’s Black Bottom is set to begin streaming on Netflix December 18. The film is directed by Denzel Washington and Boseman starred opposite Emmy winner Viola Davis. There is already buzz that Boseman could snag an Oscar nomination for the role.
