Disney Channel’s ‘High School Musical 4’ Is Officially In Production
The Disney Channel is officially scheduled to start casting for High Musical 4. The movie will be written by Peter Barsocchini and Dan Berendsen. Barsocchini wrote all three previous High School movies while Berendsen wrote Hanna Montana: The Movie.
The movie will focus on a new group of East High students and their rivals, West High Knights. The franchise launched the careers of Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens.
Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush return as executive producers. Jason La Padura, Natalie Hart and Kendra Patterson of LaPadura/Hart/Patterson will work as casting directors for the movie.
The announcement of the movie comes 10 years after the first one debuted. It quickly became the most popular production out of the Disney channel, selling millions of CDs and skyrocketing the careers of the cast.
“High School Musical is part of Disney Channel’s DNA,” Disney Channel’s Worldwide President and CCO Gary Marsh said Tuesday in a statement. “It embodies all that we stand for. As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we’re excited to announce ‘the start of something new’ — as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the High School Musical franchise.”
Disney Channel PR tweeted on Tuesday, “Calling all #Wildcats! A nationwide casting search begins today for #HighSchoolMusical4! #HighSchoolMusical #HSM”
