Diem Brown Dies

Brown died Friday morning in New York City, People confirmed.

“MTV is tremendously sad to hear the news that Diem Brown has lost her long battle with cancer,” the network said in a statement. “We send our deepest condolences to her family and friends. Diem was a true fighter and brought passion to everything she touched. We will miss her.”

Throughout her battle, Brown was known for her determination to beat cancer and unfailing positivity. On Tuesday, she tweeted, “I NEED prayers and advice. My doctors are seemingly giving up but I won’t & can’t roll over. Whatever option I have to LIVE I’m grabbing.” She was expected to undergo more chemotherapy next Tuesday with the hope of shrinking the tumors.

Brown’s Cancer Battle

This latest bout of cancer, was the third for Brown. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2006 and went into remission that same year. In 2012, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer once again. In February 2013, she learned that the cancer was back and had spread to her colon and stomach lining. By this August, it had spread further to her liver and lymph nodes.

“It’s my personal perspective that you live as hard and as vigorously as you can,” she said on her blog in October. “My goals are something I believe in, because I believe I’m going to make it.”

“I’m going to have a family and get married and the whole American, 2½ kids, white-picket fence dream,” she added. “It’s something that’s really important to me, because it means a long-term future.”

Brown made her first reality TV appearance on MTV’s Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat in 2006. She went on to appear on The Gauntlet III, The Duel 2, The Ruins,  Battle of the Exes and Rivals II. Brown parlayed her Challenge fame into a career as a patient advocate, founding MedGift.

“No matter what it is, you’re going to have the bad days, but if you have hope throughout, you won, no matter what the results,” Diem said last month. “Life is so beautiful.”
