Jeb Stuart is attached as a writer for the upcoming live-action Assassin’s Creed television series on Netflix. The upcoming Assassin’s Creed series is based on the massively popular video game franchise of the same name. Stuart is best known as a writer for acclaimed films such as Die Hard directed by John McTiernan in 1988 and The Fugitive directed by Andrew Davis in 1993. Stuart is also the co-creator along with Michael Hirst of the Netflix series Vikings: Valhalla, a spin-off to the popular historical fantasy drama series Vikings, which ran from 2013-2020.
The upcoming Assassin’s Creed television series will be the second attempt at a live-action adaptation of the iconic video game franchise. The first attempt was the 2016 Assassin’s Creed movie directed by Justin Kurzel and starring Michael Fassbender in the lead role as Cal, an original character created for the film. The Assassin’s Creed movie was panned by critics and fans of the game, who felt that an actual character from the games should have been the main character of the film and that the writing and storytelling were very sloppy. Most fans of the Assassin’s Creed games were left unsatisfied at this very lackluster film. Despite the less than enthusiastic reception to the live-action Assassin’s Creed movie, a large number of fans are excited to see the show on Netflix, as the streaming service has already proven itself to make successful adaptations of popular video games franchises with the adult animated series Castlevania.
