Ever since she exploded into the spotlight with Grammy-nominated album 1000 Forms Of Fear, Australian singer Sia has remained steadfast in her commitment to keeping her face concealed from the public eye, a move that has intrigued and frustrated fans in equal measure. Speaking with pal Ellen Degeneres, Sia revealed her motivations and nearly, nearly, strips the wig back to break the illusion once and for all.
“Well, it’s so that I can go to Target and buy a hose if I want to. Or if I’m in need of a restroom and I can’t find one, I could go by the side of the road,” Sia explained to DeGeneres on Tuesday’s episode. “And nobody would be following me with a camera trying to get ‘the shot.'”
Ellen then seems to get Sia to agree to give her audience a peek behind her monochrome locks but just as she begins to peel back her tresses holiday music interrupts and Ellen’s Christmas giveaway diverts attention from the shy singer.
Sia also performed on the show, singing hit “Alive,” accompanied by frequent collaborator Maddie Ziegler. The Dance Mom‘s protégé had been a stalwart of Sia’s 1000 Forms Of Fear campaign but had been noticeably absent from promotional material for her latest effort, so her appearance came as a welcome surprise.
Sia next album, This Is Acting, is set for release on January 29th.
