DHS Warns Of A U.S. Trucker Convoy Protest That Could Start On Super Bowl Sunday

According to the Department of Homeland Security, a convoy of truckers is reportedly planning to block roads in the U.S. in protest of Covid-19 mandates and may begin strategically on Super Bowl Sunday, February 13 in Los Angeles.

The bulletin, which was released Thursday, warned that truckers are planning the demonstration were inspired by a trucker protest at the U.S.-Canada border that began Monday is currently ongoing. The bulletin said the DHS “has received reports of a convoy of truckers planning to potentially. block roads in major metropolitan cities in the United States in protest of, among other things, vaccine mandates for truck drivers.”

A DHS source also told Yahoo News that this protest is “absolutely a real concern,” and, “They are definitely going to follow the Canadian model and shut down Washington.”

On Monday, the truckers blocked traffic going both ways on the Ambassador Bridge, a crucial international border crossing between Canada and Detroit. Hundreds more truckers have been drawn to Ottawa thanks to the protests, leading the mayor to declare a state of emergency. Right-wing voices in the U.S. like former President Donald Trump and Fox News Tucker Carlson have voiced their support for the protestors.

In another statement, a DHS official said, “We have not observed specific calls for violence within the United States associated with this convoy, and are working closely with our federal, state, and local partners to continuously assess the threat environment and keep our communities safe.”
