Devin Valez Exits ‘American Idol’
Devin Valez was the American Idol contestant that was sent packing his bags last night during the results show, making him the third male to get the boot from Idol viewers.
Devin has consistently been in the bottom three. Last night, he was there again alongside Lazaro Arbos and Burnell Taylor – the only two remaining guys in the competition. Unfortunately for Devin, he received the least amount of votes of the three.
While Lazaro has yet to deliver the type of performance the judges expected of him, his performance last night was far better than last week’s and was enough to keep his hope alive. Burnell was the only surprise out of the three; he gave a pitch perfect performance of Stevie Wonder’s "My Cherie Amour" – perhaps his best delivery during the live shows.
Although the Idol judges’ response to Devin’s Wednesday night performance of "Tracks of My Tears" was positive, the 18-year-old still failed to capture the voting audience. As Jimmy Iovine said before the results came in – the judges needed to evaluate him against the other contestants, not just against his other subpar performances on the talent show.
It's been a great journey," Devin told Us Weekly after being voted off the Fox talent competition. "It can only get better from here, and I still get to do the tour."
The seven remaining contestants are Lazaro, Burnell, Candace Glover, Angie Miller, Amber Holcomb, Janelle Arthur and Kree Harrison. American Idol returns next Wednesday on Fox at 8/7c.
