Prince William and Princess Kate offered birthday wishes to Prince Harry on social media for the first time since 2021.

On Sunday, the Prince and Princess of Wales used a message first posted by the royal family on X, adding their caption that read: “Wishing a Happy 40th Birthday to The Duke of Sussex!”

The posts mark Harry’s first public birthday message from the royals since he and his wife, Meghan Markle, had their revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey three years ago.

The warm wishes from the royals come as a surprise given the estrangement between Prince Harry and his brother, as well as known tensions between him and his father, King Charles

Last year, the royals declined to publicly celebrate Harry’s birthday. Harry was reportedly heard admitting to a supporter that he hadn’t heard from his family at the 2023 Invictus Games in Germany.

Harry incurred the wrath of the royal family when he released his memoir Spare in January 2023, in which he criticized many members of his family.

The Duke of Sussex is said to be consulting with people from his “old life,” as he reportedly plans to spend more time in the U.K.
