Derek Hough has decided to skip the 20th season of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars in favor of performing in Radio City Music Hall’s New York Spring Spectacular.
Hough announced his new project in a statement to People magazine:
“I am ecstatic that I’ll able to extend my passion for performing to the Great Stage of Radio City Music Hall in New York Spring Spectacular. Performing at Radio City Music Hall in a show that celebrates everything that is beloved about New York City is a dream. I can’t wait to show fans this production … it’s going to be like nothing they’ve seen me in before.”
In the New York Spring Spectacular, Hough plays the role of the leading man who is promised, “an eternal reward if he’s able to help a New York City tour guide whose job is threatened when Laura Benanti’s character reveals her plan to take the tour company virtual,” according to Deadline.
Benanti, who is the female lead, is best known for starring on Nashville. Whoopi Goldberg and teen star Bella Thorne will be lending their voices to the production. So You Think You Can Dance‘s Mia Michaels choreographed the first dance number.
Radio City Music Hall’s New York Spring Spectacular will run from March 12 to May 3.
Dancing with the Star‘s 20th season will kickoff this spring.
