Denzel Washington And Viola Davis Shine In First Trailer For ‘Fences’

The first trailer for the Paramount Pictures film Fences, which sees Denzel Washington and Viola Davis reprise their Broadway roles, has been released.

FENCES MOVIE TRAILER RELEASED

Fences, based on August Wilson’s 1987 play of the same name, follows Pittsburgh garbage collector Troy Maxson and his family through the late 50s and early 60s. The powerful trailer features a memorable moment from the play, in which Troy’s son Cory (Jovan Adepo) asks his father, “How come you ain’t never liked me?”

Playwright Wilson won a Pulitzer Price for the play in ’87, and the Broadway show won Tony awards for Best Play, Best Leading Actor (James Earl Jones), Best Featured Actress (Mary Alice), and Best Direction (Lloyd Richards). A revival of the play in 2010 won for Best Revival of a Play, Best Leading Actor (Washington) and Best Leading Actress (Davis).

The film will also be directed by Washington. Producers are Scott Rudin, Washington and Todd Black. Fences is set for release in Australia on Jan. 26. This film joins a handful of Oscar hopefuls from Paramount Pictures, and could also offset the #OscarsSoWhite controversy that has plagued the industry for the past two years, and countless years before attention was called to Hollywood’s lack of diversity in film, especially during Oscar season.
