Last Tuesday’s episode of The Daily Show showed Denis Leary pleading Jon Stewart to change his mind about retiring from the show.

DENIS LEARY PLEADS JON STEWART TO NOT LEAVE THE DAILY SHOW

Leary, who stars in the new FX comedy called Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll teased Stewart about his decision to leave the Daily Show to spend time with his family. “I think I speak for everybody who’s here, and the people who work for you obviously… When we found out that you were offered this big contract and basically turning it down to spend time with your family. It was a big contract. They said it was $50 million,” Leary said.

The host joked that Leary was thinking of Dave Chappelle, but the comedian ignored him. “It was a lot of money. We all thought the same thing: This is a guy who’s very brave and courageous and he’s a good dad and wants to spend time with his family.”

“That’s what we thought,” joked Stewart, who after 16 years of hosting The Daily Show, will be signing off with his last episode that’s due to air on Thursday, August 6. “Where you going with this? You’re not going anywhere with this? Aren’t you going to s— on me,” Stewart questioned his longtime friend.

“What the f— is wrong with you? Do you know how much f—ing therapy you could buy for your kids with $50 million f—ing dollars?” Leary said. “They could hate your guts into perpetuity. Who cares? They have mansions to hate your guts in.”

Leary then pleaded Stewart to continue hosting the show, even offering to give another show to Trevor Noah, who will be taking over after the current host retires. Jokes aside, Leary, who was a frequent guest on the show, closed the episode by praising Stewart for his career. “The decision you made is right,” he said. “You’re retiring at the top of your game, like most people wish they could do. You’re gonna spend all this time with your kids… I admire what you’re doing. You’re going out with like 10 Emmy’s.”
