Democrat Sen. John Fetterman Declares ‘I Am Not Woke,’ Says Squatters ‘Have No Rights’

Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman (D), once known as a progressive, has been taking more centrist positions lately. In a new interview, he declared, “I am not woke.”

When questioned about squatters’ rights, the senator told The New York Post, “Squatters have no rights. How can you even pretend that this is anything other than you’re just breaking the law?”

Squatters occupy a property they do not own or have a legal right to live on. Though trespassing is illegal, squatting and squatters’ rights have been an ongoing debate for politicians and homeowners.

Fetterman was “horrified” when he read an article about a New York City couple sued by squatters who unlawfully moved into their duplex priced at $930,000.

“It’s wild that if you go away on a long trip, for 30 days, and someone breaks into your home, and suddenly they have rights,” Fetterman said. “This is crazy. Like if somebody stole your car, and then they held it for 30 days, then somehow you now have some rights?”

In the same interview, Fetterman also discussed New York City’s crime policies related to the shooting of NYPD officer Jonathan Diller. Diller was shot during a traffic stop by Guy Rivera, who had 21 prior arrests.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul was criticized for her crime policies, which some have blamed for the killing of Diller. Hochul was confronted at Diller’s wake by a police officer.

“If you have those kinds of established records, it doesn’t serve any greater goal to allow people that are offending, offending, offending and allow them to not be held accountable,” Fetterman said. “We have to be very smart and aggressive on crime.”

Fetterman has been making news lately after calling for fellow Sen. Bob Menendez (D-New Jersey) to resign after he was indicted on corruption charges.
