Many California residents, including celebrities such as Demi Moore, Kaley Cuoco and Emma Stone, accidentally registered as members of the ultraconservative American Independent Party in California.

Celebrities Sign Up For Wrong Party

Moore, Cuoco and Stone are among thousands of California voters who were mistaken in believing that registering for the American Independent Party was the same as registering an an Independent in other states, reported the Los Angeles Times. Patrick Schwarzenegger and boxer Sugar Ray Leonard also made the mistake. Those wishing to register without a party affiliation in California are to check the “no party preference” during registration.

The American Independent Party opposes progressive social causes such as abortion rights and same-sex marriage. It is also in support of building a fence at the U.S. border with Mexico, according to Fox News.

A representative for Moore distanced the actress from the party in a statement, which reads, “Demi Moore is not, nor has ever been, a member of the American Independent Party. Any record that states otherwise is a mistake.”

Cuoco released a statement in her own words, explaining, “The views of this party do not accurately reflect my personal beliefs and I am not affiliated with any political party. As such, I am taking the necessary steps to immediately remove my name as a member of this voting party.”

Stone, Leonard and Schwarzenegger all plan on re-registering or changing their registration as soon as possible, reps for the respective celebrities told the L.A. Times.

California’s primary will be held June 7.
