On July 24, 2018, Demi Lovato was hospitalized for an apparent drug overdose. During her stay, multiple fans and friends of the 25-year-old pop star expressed their well-wishes for her recovery and she was released from the hospital on Saturday, August 4, 2018. Lovato’s family members and spokespeople have issued statements to the public about her medical status and wishes for privacy, but it wasn’t until August 5, 2018 that Lovato herself spoke out about her medical emergency.

A source that spoke to People said, “Demi left the hospital over the weekend. She will get continued care at an in-patient rehab facility. At the hospital, she was surrounded by family and friends that support her sobriety. They all want Demi to be the best she can. Demi is surrounded by a lot of love. She has people in her life that really care. She has a long journey ahead, but with all the love, her journey could absolutely be a positive one.” Lovato successfully completed rehab for addiction, bullimia, and self-harm in 2010 and was sober for six years before her relapse.
