Debbie Reynolds Dies At 84, One Day After Daughter Carrie Fisher Passed Away

Veteran actress Debbie Reynolds died on Wednesday, the day after the death of her daughter Carrie Fisher. Reynolds was 84.

DEBBIE REYNOLDS DIES DAY AFTER LOSS OF DAUGHTER

Fisher died on Tuesday after a massive heart attack at the age of 60. Reynolds, while grieving, passed the following day, from what looks like a stroke.

Reynolds son Todd Fisher said the two had been discussing Fisher’s funeral when Reynolds took ill. “I miss her so much,” Reynolds reportedly said before collapsing. “I want to be with Carrie.”

The heartbreaking news came as a shock to the world, with many fellow actors grieving for her loss. “A legend of course,” said Debra Messing of Reynolds, who played mother and daughter on WIll & Grace. “The epitome of clean-cut American optimism, dancing with Gene Kelly as an equal, a warrior woman who never stopped working.”

Carol Channing joined the conversation, saying, “She was beautiful and generous. It seems like only yesterday she was having lunch here at the house and we were discussing the possibility of working together in a new show.”

“It breaks my heart that she is gone,” wrote William Shatner. And added what all of us were thinking: “I’d hoped that my grieving was done for 2016.”

Reynolds got her start alongside Gene Kelly in 1952’s Singin’ in the Rain as a 19-year-old starlet. She earned the Academy Award for Best Actress for the 1964 musical The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Reynolds appeared in a number of films and TV shows, including Charlotte’s WebRugrats, and The Love Boat.

She wed musician Eddie Fisher in 1955 and had two children, Todd and Carrie, before divorced him after discovering he cheated on her with Elizabeth Taylor. Reynolds’ relationship with her daughter Carrie was strained for most of her life. They went through a period of years where they did not speak, but the duo became much closer later in life.

It is thought that humans can experience a physical broken heart following extreme stress, like the death of a loved one. It is thought that Reynolds’ death was brought on from such a condition, having experienced the death of a child.

Fans gathered around her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to express their condolences and leave candles and tributes. Many fans and stars alike took to Twitter to do the same.
