This week, Days of Our Lives will show the first daytime drama wedding between two men over the course of three episodes.
The wedding, between Will Horton (Guy Wilson) and Sonny Kiriakis (Freddie Smith), will kick off on air Tuesday, and stretch through Wednesday’s and Thursday’s episodes as well.
“Starting on April 1st for three consecutive episodes, the fan-favorite couple Will Horton and Sonny Kiriakis (affectionately deemed ‘WilSon’) will tie the knot in a beautiful ceremony presided by a surprise officiate,” said NBC in a statement.
According to spoilers, the surprise officiate is Marlena (Deidre Hall), but delayed paperwork could throw a wrench in her officiating plans. However, E.J. (James Scott) and Sammy (Alison Sweeney) are enlisted to help her get everything sorted out in time for the big day.
The "WilSon" nuptials will apparently be a quiet event, in which only family and close friends are in attendence. For the ceremony, both Will and Sonny will walk down the aisle before exchanging their vows.
In 2009, All My Children aired the first lesbian wedding on a daytime soap opera, when Eden (Bianca Montgomery) and Tamara (Reese Williams) married.
Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on NBC at 1 p.m. EST.
